About Chris

Christopher James Newton, an “adopted” Texan, grew up embracing everything special about this state. Even as a small child he always believed that the most important thing in life was the “journey, not the destination”. He graduated from Klein High School before heading to Boulder, Colorado. He eventually settled in Austin, Texas where his journey continued it’s long and curvy path towards a college degree. Perhaps his greatest gift was his effortless ability to bring people together...and that gift continues on in ways no one could have imagined!

The Chris Newton Memorial Golf Tournament was born out of love and loss by Christopher’s close friends and classmates in the year 2000 when a car accident ended his life. More than a decade later friends, classmates, families, neighbors, and strangers—many from out-of-state—continue to gather the first weekend in June to celebrate the joy of friendship, service, shared memories.
